Are you out there?

This is day two of our newly created blog.
Michelle and Sarah are busy studying for finals. The big kids are busy working, and my sister, brother in law, and husband are at work as well.
I, however, am on vacation this week! So ha ha and nya nya!

So I had a dentist appointment today. An interesting observation on getting older is that you use your vacation time to catch up on things and "take care of business". It is funny that when I said good bye and have a nice week as I left for my vaca, my co workers asked what I planned on doing. I don't know if they were disappointed or they understood when I told them my week would be full of appointments and sifting through piles of papers. My true definition of a vacation is very simple. Sleep when I'm tired and eat when I'm hungry! Watching TV is optional, but listening to music is mandatory- thank you Alex, and that just gave me the idea for my next blog post!

So back to the dentist appointment: You can all be proud of me! I have no cavities and I "do a good job taking care of my teeth". They say this like I'm a little kid. Hello! I'm sitting right there. I just smiled and said thanks. What I wanted to say is "where's my sticker and balloon?" Well,I did get a goody bag filled with a new toothbrush, sample size toothpaste and dental floss. The bag actually works out to be a good one for carrying stuff to work. It's the perfect size for a paperback book.
So are you all taking good care of your teeth? You know your teeth get old, just like us Li-old. How bout those receding gums? Well one good thing when all your teeth are filled I think it gives less opportunity for a new cavity. When I was a kid, going to the dentist was horrible! I think our first dentist in Norwood was Dr Fishman. I don't remember any of those appointments. Maybe I was really just waiting for Bubbie while she had her appointment. I do remember playing with his kids. They had a big country style house. They had great toys. I think there was a boy and a girl. Our next dentist was Dr Halfond. His wife ran the office. He was nice. I had a lot of cavities when I was a kid, but never got novocaine. I don't know whether it was because it was too expensive, my Mom didn't believe in it, or the Dr just didn't do that for children. Those drilling experiences were not fun! Scarred me for life I tell ya! No wonder my generation is so messed up! It's pretty barbaric, don't ya think? That sound of the drill sends chills down ya back. Well, I did learn how to do all that mental imaging crap! So don't make fun of my spaciness! It is actually a well developed talent! So during my late teens and early twenties, I didn't visit a dentist once. Do you blame me? When Chris found this dentist here in Nashua, my teeth were in sad shape. The dentist would give me these pitiful yet disgusted looks. I could tell she was thinking about all the work she had ahead of her...and laughing all the way to the bank. She did remodel her office at least once. And,she did move to a bigger location a few years ago. Oh well, gotta make my contribution somewhere. She is a very nice person and she knows us all. At least that's what she makes us think. Did ya ever wonder if doctors really remember who the hell we are? I think maybe they have a huge list with cheat notes that they look at when they know you're coming in. They jot down reminders of what your kids names are, where ya work, and if ya celebrate Christmas or Chanukah.

When they're all done, they set up your next appointment. She asked me "How does June 13th sound for you?" Ya, like I have a clue what my life will be like in June. So I asked her what day of the week that is. It's a Monday. Then she wants to know what would be a good time. I just let her fill in any time. I know I'll just wait for the reminder E-mail and change it then.
When I left, everyone said good bye. Is good or bad when everyone knows you? One receptionist is a synagogue friend. Another is an ex employee from where I work. I guess the hygienists just know me cuz I'm a regular and just about all of them have been in my mouth at one time or another. The synagogue friend hugged me and said "It's nice to see you". I said "It's nice to see you too, and it's nice to be seen". Turned out to be a nice visit. Strange huh?
